About Me

My Photo
Brett & I were married in March of 2003. I am a mom to 2 beautiful girls and 2 cute little boys. I stay at home with our kids while my husband goes to school. I love it that I get to stay home with my kids and watch them grow up. It's better than all the money in the world. And, it's not so bad this 'Livin' on Love' thing.

Brett

Brett
Brett is my cute hubby. He is in his 4th year of Dental School at Indiana University School of Dentistry (Indianapolis). I am so proud of what he has accomplished. He is amazing & the hardest working person that I know. If I had one word to describe him it would be 'DEDICATED'. Dedicated to his wife, children, schooling, career, religion, job, friends...to everything! I love him & his children love him and he loves us back....that's all we need.

Quinnlyn

Quinnlyn
Quinnie just turned 6! She is growing faster than we can keep up with! She loves going to first grade and is doing really well! She picks up on things very quickly and LOVES learning. She's seriously a sponge. Her favorite thing to do is write notes and draw pictures for her friends & family. You should see our continual stack of papers. Quinnlyn is creative & spunky & totally independant. We love her like crazy!

Avery

Avery
Oh our cute little Avery! With her blue eyes & blonde hair, she is one of the cutest 4 year olds around!! This girl is stubborn! She definitely keeps us on our toes. She is quite unpredictable, which makes for a lot of laughs! Avery is our TREAT-FREAK! We can always guess what is on her mind. My favorite thing about Avery is her smiles. She always has one for us no matter what and that makes everyones day just a little better. She attends preschool and says she doesn't like it, but secretly we know she does ;). We are so lucky to have this cute girl in our family! We can't get enough of her.

Easton

Easton
Easton is the cutest little boy we know! He rightfully earned the nickname 'BEASTY' when he was a baby and it has stuck with him. He is such a sweet little mommy's boy and we are ALL at his Beck and call. Easton loves cars, snacks, and playing outside. He is talking up a storm and it seems like he learns something new every single day. He is at such a fun age. We LOVE LOVE LOVE this little guy!

Kobe Dylan

Kobe Dylan
Kobe is our first child, born in 2004. He was 4 months early and weighed a whopping 1 lb. 4 oz.! We got to be with Kobe for 4 wonderful weeks. I feel so blessed to have been chosen to raise one of God's perfect children. We love him and thank Heavenly Father everyday that he is part of our family. We have a treasure in heaven.

Halfway Mark

I can't believe I haven't posted anything about this pregnancy yet. Here are a few noteworthy things to remember:

-Due July 5
Sick at 6 weeks
-I Never actually told Brett I was pregnant....he just figured
-First Midwife Appt. at 10 weeks
-First U/S at 11 weeks & heard heartbeat
-12 weeks morning sickness is all but gone
-Told some family at 12 weeks
-Felt movement at 16 weeks
-It's a GIRL ( 18 week U/S)
-Bi-monthly U/S and midwife visits begin
-First 17P Progesterone shot: 19 1/2 weeks
-Contractions are more noticeable @ 19 weeks
-We'll never find a name we love for this baby

This pregnancy has been pretty uneventful which is great (although the drama usually happens about 22 weeks so we'll see). I am seeing a midwife this time around. However, an OB oversees my care and will take over if needed. I am excited to try this 'semi-different' approach and hope it will mean a more enjoyable labor (is that possible). I will be delivering in a hospital though because I don't trust home deliveries. I feel like I am carrying high...which hopefully means I will fit in my pants for a bit longer.

That's all. Now it is time for my 2nd 17p Shot :(

Tilex® and SocialMoms “Cancel the Mold Show in Your Bathroom”

There are few things worse than walking into a bathroom and seeing mold growing in the corners or in the bathtub! Bathrooms are such a breeding ground for all things ‘germy’, and the last thing I want to see is mold & mildew lurking around! We’ve had a few problems with mold (that’s what happens when you live in a poorly built rental home), but Tilex has come to the rescue!

With Tilex, you can ‘Cancel the Mold’ once and for all! Check out the video below:

Here are a few tips that will help keep mold out of your home:

  • -Use a bleach cleaner regularly. Bleach will keep the mold away for a longer amount of time than a cleaner without it.
  • -Get rid of Dampness. Mold & Mildew love moisture…..so make sure you are keeping things dry.
  • -Ventilate. Especially during those long, hot showers. Open a window, or be sure to use your vent to lower the humidity level.
  • Use Tilex to keep Mold stains out of sight!
  • Remember to check all areas of your home! Mold & Mildew can grow ANYWHERE!

Did you know that 100% of homes have mold? That’s right! No house is immune from it. And it isn’t just in the bathroom (although that is the obvious place I think about when it comes to mold). Mold is often found in window sills, refrigerator seals, under the kitchen sink, air registers and entryways. So make sure you are taking the correct steps to keep it at bay! With a little effort, you can have a home that is safe for your whole family! And don’t forget, Tilex is here to help you keep your home clean & MOLD-FREE!! It is formulated to attack all that icky mold & mildew.

To celebrate the new Tilex lineup, Tilex is hosting an exciting sweepstakes with lots of cool prizes! Enter on the Tilex Facebook page and you will have a chance to win one of three 40” flat screen TVs, or one of ten Netflix subscriptions. Also, if you share the news about the sweepstakes with your friends, you’ll receive an additional entry for each friend you invite.

Where do you find mold in your home? Do you have any tips to share that will keep the Mold & Mildew from taking over? I’d love to hear them!

Annual Valentine's Day Party

This was our last Valentine's day party of our dental career (so sad). We always love an excuse to get together & eat yummy food! Jenna did a fantastic job this year, as always, even with her being 18 weeks pregnant.

We had a fantastic spread of food, played some fun games, and visited (my favorite part)....ALL WITHOUT KIDS!!--actually, that may have been my favorite part.

8 is GREAT!

Yesterday we celebrated Kobe's 8th birthday. We just did the usual....blew out candles on a cake and ENJOYED ;) I remember the first few years after his death that I felt like I had to do something big & special or else I would be a bad mother. Is it weird that I don't feel like that anymore. I mean....I know where he is and I know he is doing great things and he is certainly not worried about wether or not we have a big celebration for him. So am I a bad mother??

I just can't believe it's been 8 years. Kobe would be getting baptised this year...a milestone that I should be sad to miss right? But I have a silver lining. My son is already perfect. That gives me joy.

There were a few really difficult months that I wondered how I would ever move on...but I did. Does it mean I forgot? Certainly not. But it's not a tragedy anymore, his life was & is a miracle that I am really grateful for! How often do you get to see God perform such a huge miracle as Kobe was? We are so blessed!!

Happy Birthday Kobe!!!

Snow is fun....when it's warm outside!!

Since the weather was so amazing during our visit to Utah, we decided to go sledding in Enterprise. It was about 60 degrees and sunny which is definitely my kind of 'sledding weather'. We wore short sleeves shirts and there was no freezing toes or fingers to think about!! Grandma Jones, Mckay & Amanda & Carter, and Kayden & Treyson (cousins) came along for the fun.

I was nervous for Brett and the kids to down the hill. Mostly Brett because it would be really terrible for him to break anything at this point in dental school....we need to graduate in May (it would be terrible at any point, but especially now). Luckily nobody got hurt and we all had a great time. Easton was still sick so he only got in on a few rides, but he seemed to enjoy it. Quinnlyn would go down the hill by herself, but Avery was a little more reserved (I think she takes after me). She would only go if Brett went with her....but she was mostly interested in snowballs anyway.

We had a lot of fun on our Snow Day!!

Healthy Snacking tips….plus a recipe to indulge your sweet tooth (socialmoms)

It’s been a while since I have done a SocialMoms post and this is a good one for all of us who are making resolutions to eat healthy this year!!

Here are a few things that I plan on doing to keep my New Year resolution:

Keep the junk food out

My family is a huge fan of all things junk!! Unfortunately, I have indulged the cravings by buying lot’s of yummy, but unhealthy treats and snacks. If they are in the house, it’s hard to stay away from them. So my goal is to buy more healthy foods for snack time. I expect a lot of complaining from the kids (and the husband), but hopefully with time, we can all break our sugar addiction!

No depriving

Although I plan on buying more healthy foods, I don’t plan on being the mean mom who doesn’t let my kids indulge a little. In my experience, if I try to cut out all the sugar and fat, all those cravings build up and then I go crazy one day. Everything in moderation right? So grab some pretzels (Snyders of Hanover has several kinds to choose from) and dip them in chocolate or caramel!! Just don’t lick the bowl when you are doneWinking smile.

Limit juices and soda’s

This is such an easy way to cut calories and reduce the amount of sugar you are consuming! My family enjoys juice and soda, but we are far from addicted to it so this one will be quite easy for us. If your kids have to have juice, try diluting with a little bit of water (works better for young children because they don’t notice as much). If you just really dislike water, try adding a few lemon slices (or even other fruit). It’s actually quite refreshing!!

Now even though I plan on eating better this year, I am certainly not going to deprive myself or my family of a treat once in a while. So here is a recipe that is perfect for indulging your sweet tooth.

Pretzel Salad

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels (Synders of Hanover pretzels work well)
  • 3/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 4 1/2 ounces frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (6 ounce) package strawberry flavored gelatin
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen strawberries
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix crushed pretzels, margarine and sugar.
  3. Press crushed pretzel mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish, and bake in the preheated oven 8 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  4. Blend together the cream cheese and sugar. Fold in whipped topping and spread evenly over cooled pretzel mixture.
  5. In a medium bowl, dissolve the strawberry flavored gelatin in boiling water. Mix in strawberries and set aside to cool for 15 minutes.
  6. Pour gelatin mixture over cream cheese mixture and refrigerate until set, about 4 hours.

Enjoy! But try not to eat the whole salad by yourself!!

In 1963, the Bechtel Pretzel Company, founded by Bill and Helen Bechtel in 1947, was purchased and incorporated into Snyder’s Bakery. Bill developed the original recipe for the Sourdough Hard Pretzel that is still enjoyed by consumers today. More info on Snyder’s of Hanover

More Christmas Eve

After our Ence party, we headed to my parents house (where we were staying) and the kids opened their traditional P.J's. I know a lot of people do this tradition and it was always one of my favorites growing up. Who doesn't love a new pair of Pajamas???

Grandpa & Grandma Hannig actually bought the Christmas Pj's this year and all the kids got slippers too. Easton loved his car slippers and he looks dang cute in them too! The girls got Hello Kitty Pj's and fuzzy 'boot slippers'. We had a bit of a melt down because there was a size mixup, and one of the girls didn't want to give up her leopard slippers for the pink ones....but we got it all straightened out.

I even got pajamas this year....I live in Pajamas in case you didn't know. Come to my house and I will still be wearing pajamas even if it is afternoon.
